Inaugurating the festival, N.Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, and president, Music Academy, suggested that music could be part of the curriculum as it helped transcend several barriers. He complimented the current generation of young musicians for being innovative. The current generation had its own style with deep roots in traditional values.

Amidst the grace and fervour that Carnatic music is known to inspire, the one month-long 34th Year Art Festival was inaugurated yesterday at the Narada Gana Sabha Hall in Chennai. The festival opened with an inaugural ceremony that was presided over by dignitaries from various fields, including Mr N. Murali – Managing Director of The Hindu, Mr T.S. Narayanasami – Chairman of Bank of India and theater legend and Mylapore MLA – Mr S.V. Shekar.
